With significant storms expected this weekend, now is the time to make sure your standby generator is ready. A few minutes of checking today can save you from a dark, cold house (and a long wait on the phone) when the power goes out.
Before the storm: a quick generator checklist
- Check your generator’s controller or display. On newer units, the blue light should be solid. If it is blinking or off, please call us.
- Check your propane supply.
- Make sure the area around your generator is clear and accessible.
Make checking your controller a habit
Please check your generator’s controller periodically so you know your unit is ready when you need it. If you notice a fault or anything that doesn’t look right, give us a call. We can’t help with an issue if we don’t know about it!
Keep the area around your generator clear
During our fall maintenance visits, we’ve noticed excessive grass, leaves, and shrubbery around a number of generators. Please keep the area clear. Overgrowth can be a serious fire hazard and restricts the airflow your generator needs to run properly.

How we handle calls during a major storm
We’re a small company and always do our best to reach everyone promptly. During a major storm, emergency calls are prioritized by severity and safety needs, including medical needs, followed by customers who are current with their preventative maintenance plans. We will assist everyone else as quickly as conditions and availability allow.
Our technicians’ safety comes first, and we will not dispatch crews into dangerous conditions.
